BitTorrent index site, Torrentspy, has been fined $110m by a judge in Los Angeles. This is by far the largest fine ever ordered in any BitTorrent case and is clearly more about sending a message to the BitTorrent community than actually recovering so called “losses” for the MPAA.
U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ordered TorrentSpy to pay $30,000 for each of the 3,699 copyright violations that were found on Torrentspy servers. Luckily, last year, Torrentspy shut down it’s servers to protect the IP addresses and other details belonging to it’s users.
Maybe it’s time for BitTorrent sites to leave America…..
